      "A Mother's Tender Compassion"
      Isaiah 49:13-17
      Theme: God’s compassion to His people infinitely exceed those of the most tender mother’s to her child.


        1. God’s Compassion Impugned – 49:13-14

          1. God’s Faithfulness Celebrated – v. 13
            1. This is a look into the prophecies regarding the establishment of Christ’s kingdom when He restores Israel..
            2. God has promised never to forsake His people
              1. Romans 11:1, 26-29
              2. These promises also are extended to the church – cp. Hebrews 13:5.

          2. God’s Faithfulness Criticized – v. 14
            1. In the midst of such celebration, the Jews who had been so abused cry out in disbelief of God’s justice.
            2. There is a reaction from a review of their experiences since their Roman captivity.
            3. Many believers today react the same way to trial and difficulty.

        2. God’s Compassion Illustrated – 49:15

          1. The Strongest Example of Compassion
            1. The inability of a woman to forget her child – cp. 1 Thessalonians 2:7.
              1. The emotional tie which exists
              2. The physiological tie which exists
            2. However, the rate exception can occur when a mother forgets her child due to extreme circumstances.

          2. The Superior Expression of Compassion
            1. God’s compassion to His people far exceeds a mother’s tenderness toward her child.
            2. God’s love for His people, despite how it may appear, is truly inalienable

        3. God’s Compassion Impressed – 49:16-17

          1. The Permanence of God’s Compassion – v. 16
            1. God says that His people are indelibly written on His hands.
            2. To some, this is a prophetical reference to the marks which the nails placed in the hands of Christ.

          2. The Promise of God’s Compassion – v. 17
            1. This is a reference to the fulfillment of the prophecies of the establishment of the kingdom of Jesus Christ during the Millennium.
            2. Your children will hurry to come home
            3. Your enemies will hurry to flee from toubling you.
