I'm delighted to be able to respond. Gaining entrance to Heaven is not the result of how effectively you or I can "put to work" what the Bible says we are to do. In fact, neither of us has the ability to consistently practice all that the Bible teaches. We consistently "fall short of the glory of God" by sinning. James 2:10 declares; "For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all." Consequently, the way to Heaven is not found in one's attempt to work one's way there.
Heaven or "eternal life" is the gift of God, given to those who realize that they are not good enough because of the deep stains of sin that exist in their lives. It is given to those who realize that without the grace of God, they are "children of wrath" who are "dead in their sins" - Ephesians 2:1-3. It is given to those who having realized their guilt before God and the hopelessness that results, look to the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. We are told that "God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16. God sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, that He might die for our sin that through His death, we might be forgiven. The Bible says: "He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness." - 1 Peter 2:19. This forgiveness of sin is gained not by works, but by faith in what Christ did in paying for our sin. Ephesians 2:8-9 declares: "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that no of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast."
Consequently, if you are hoping to gain entrance to Heaven on the basis of how you obey God's Word, your chances are 0%. If God's Spirit brings conviction of your sin and the resulting guilt drives you to place your faith in what Christ did by living a sinless life, dying in your place and raising from the dead victorious over sin and death so that He might give you eternal life, then you are able to have confidence in God's power to save.
If you have any other questions or need to follow-up on this response, please be eager to send them to me. I'll be praying that your faith can be placed in Christ Jesus alone.
