Thank you for your question. This is an important issue since no person can come before the presence of God on the basis of their own merit. No man merits an audience with God because of our sin. The only way we are able to approach God with any sense of confidence is to come on the basis of the accomplishment of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. This is emphasis in praying in Jesus name - not a magic formula or a mindless ritualistic recitation tacked onto the end of a prayer. Praying in Jesus’ name is a mindset that acknowledges that we come to the Father on the merits of Christ’s atonement, and that we will voluntarily limit our requests of Him to that which is consistent with the priorities and character of Jesus Christ. This is what Jesus meant when He stated: "Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it." (John 14:13-14). It has been said that praying in Jesus name can be compared to using a power of attorney that a very dear loved one has given you. You do your best to represent them and their interest to you best ability.
