I recently interviewed an individual who was introduced to homosexuality as a 15 year old. He indicated that he had taken a person into his trust who then betrayed that trust and lured him into that lifestyle. He indicated that all the while he was indulging in it, he understood it to be wrong - having to curb his conscience in order to satisfy his lusts. A very often used ploy to lure teens into experimenting with homosexuality is to ask them how they know that they are meant to be heterosexual - if they've never sampled the "delights" of homosexuality. Of course such reasoning is arrogant against God in that he has created us according to His intention. For instance, at creation, God established his intention for the sexual activity of his creations. Matthew 19:4-5 states: "Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?"
This principle establishes several moral issues. First, no sexual involvement before marriage is ever appropriate - but rather is condemned with vehemence by God: denounced as adultery and fornication. Paul declares in 1 Thessalonians 4:3 that "this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality." Hence, to indulge in sexual immorality is to eliminate the possibility of sanctification. In Hebrews, he indicates that the marriage bed is to remain pure: "[Let] marriage [be held] in honor among all, and let the [marriage] bed [be] undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge. (NASB) - Hebrews 11:4. Clearly to violate the creators intention for sexual activity by indulging prior to marriage is sin.
The second issue clarified for us is that the only sexual activity God accepts is that between a husband (man) and wife (woman). Homosexual activity is called an abomination to him because it defies the intention of His creation - cp. Leviticus 18:22; Jude 6:7. In Romans 1:18-32, the Apostle Paul addresses the issue of the rebellion against the Creators design and calls homosexual indulgence as a "degrading passion" (v. 26), and an "abandonment of the natural function" (v. 27), and "indecent acts" (v. 27). This is all the result of a man or woman rebelling against God and as a consequence or judgment, God gives them over "in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them." (v. 24).
Also as a consequence, God has pronounced that those rebelling against His Creative authority and design are among the "unrighteous" who will "not inherit the kingdom of God" - cp. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. However, through repentance of sin and dependence upon the cleansing power of the blood of Jesus Christ, a homosexual (as is true of all sinners) can be delivered from their sin and made pure - set free from the guilt and power of their sin. 1 Corinthians 6:11 declares: "And such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God."
God loves the homosexual but not his sin. As long as the homosexual clings to his sin, he will receive the wrath of God that is poured out against all sin. Through repentance and abandonment of sin, any sinner can be delivered.
