The doctrine of limited atonement as taught by staunch "5-point" Calvinists maintains that Christ died only for the elect and not for the entire world. It is my conviction that indeed Christ's sacrifice inherently maintains the scope to include all sinners, but is only effective for those who are the elect. To limit the atonement of Christ to the elect is to say that not all men can be saved, that the atonement of Christ is not sufficient for the salvation of all men. I believe that it is sufficient for whosoever will come, but is only efficient for those who do (the elect).
I trust this helps.
